Data Redundancy in Concrete (2018) Part of Echoes (April, Late Tate) at Tate Britain.
Generative audio-visual installation.
Materials: Japanese papers, electronic wire, 3 projectors, vintage monitors, Raspberry PIs, speakers, and generative videos (Proccessing).
The installation examines the proliferation of personal data and speculates about a future where data keeps dwelling and interacting online after its owner/creator has disappeared. The artwork uses computer algorithms as an analogue for natural processes of geological sedimentation . The work aims to highlight the material reliance of the digital and the environmental impact of its physical infrastructure. As online data is reliant upon the earth’s geology, it is impossible to segregate the socio-political and economic human practices from the natural world.
